How your contributions have helped!

Dear Little Lotus Community,

As January comes to an end, we want to take some time to highlight some of the moms and babies we've helped with the Embrace incubator.  Here are their stories:

Belmati and her baby in an Embrace infant warmer

This is Belmati Bodra from Gulika, a small village in Jharkhand. Her husband works as a laborer to support his family. When their baby was born, they traveled to the nearest district to deliver the baby in a hospital. Because the baby was born underweight, their he was placed in the Embrace infant warmer. The baby and mother are both doing well now.

Shamko and her baby in an Embrace infant warmer

Shamko Bai belongs to the Banjara community from a small village in Anta, Baran district, Rajasthan. She gave birth to twins at the community health center. One of the babies weighed just 1.75 kg, and was hypothermic at 35.6°C. The Embrace infant warmer was used to raise her baby's temperature and played a major role in stabilizing her baby's condition.

We recently began a partnership with One Heart Worldwide, an amazing nonprofit organization working on saving mothers and babies in Nepal. They just began deploying the Embrace infant warmers in the field this month, and we're eager to see the impact they make.

Thanks to Little Lotus sales, we are also starting a project with Nuru International in Kenya this quarter, and are in process of figuring out logistics for shipping our warmers to their sites.

We are thankful for all your support and together, we hope to continue our journey in helping those in need as we expand into more countries this year.

How Little Lotus Has Helped A Family Through Turbulent Times

Little Lotus Swaddle and Sleeping Bag

Dear Little Lotus Community,

Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the floods in Louisiana. We recently got an update from one of our customers, whose family had to evacuate their home:

Christoper Baby in Little Lotus Sleeping Bag"Last weekend, with the help of the fire department, we evacuated
our flooded home in south Louisiana. We awoke to two feet of water on the street in front of our house, and the situation got steadily worse. My wife and I packed bags for evacuation; only the things we could carry above our heads came with us

Today, we wanted to tell you that our Lotus came with us. In retrospect, it says a lot about a product like this when it cross into that essential group of items in your house. Our last week has been turbulent to say the least, and there are hard times ahead, but our 11 month old child continues to sleep comfortably through the night.

Thank you to your entire team. 5/5 stars. Would buy again."

- Christopher A.

We are so glad to know that Little Lotus played even a small role in helping Christopher's little one find comfort during this time of stress.

We'd love to hear from you and share with our community how Little Lotus has made a difference in your life! If you have a story to share, please email us at info@littlelotusbaby.com

Your contribution helped saved a baby!

Sarita and her baby in an Embrace infant warmer

Dear Little Lotus Community,

Thanks to your contribution to our 1:1 model of giving, you helped us save the life of a baby in India.  One of our nonprofit partners just gave us an update about Sarita, a mother in India who gave birth to her baby prematurely.  Her baby was severely underweight and in need of temperature regulation.  He was placed in an Embrace warmer, which helped stabilize his temperature, following which he was released from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit within a week's time.

We love hearing stories like these - it's what keeps us going as we work around the clock here at Little Lotus to get the best products to you and your baby.

Here is the story of Sarita Devi:

Sarita Devi, a mother of two, from Daulatpur hamlet, Murgiabigha delivered her second baby at 35 weeks of gestation in Paraiya PHC . The baby was severely underweight at 1.5 kg (3.3 lbs.).  He was also hypothermic with a temperature of 35.7 ℃ (96.3 ℉).   The baby was too weak to cry after birth and needed special medical attention.

As the baby was hypothermic, he needed to be placed in an incubator, but the radiant warmer in the facility was not working at the time.  Fortunately, they had the Embrace warmer on hand. The PHC staff decided to place the baby in the Embrace warmer and by the time he was ready to be transferred to a hospital,  his temperature had stabilized at 37 ℃ (98.6 ℉).

The baby was also kept in the Embrace warmer during the transfer so that his temperature could be maintained.  After arriving at the Magadh Medical College and Hospital safely, the baby spent a week in the NICU after which, he was discharged at the weight of 1.7 kg (3.7 lbs).

The Paraiya PHC staff was very happy with the fact that they could save the baby's life by using the Embrace warmer, both in the facility and during transfer.

All about a #LittleLotusDad

Jarrod and his family

Dear Little Lotus Community,

Father's Day is around the corner and we checked in with one of our Little Lotus Dads, Jarrod from Portland, OR, to see what he's up to for Father's Day this year.  He also gave us his dad-tested tips and tricks on getting his 10 month old to sleep.  Thanks Jarrod for sharing!

Besides being an awesome dad, what do you do for a living?
Haha, I actually run a motion graphic design studio called Crazy Awesome. It technically won't launch until next year but a group of us are doing some exciting jobs at the moment. Currently, the studio is run out of my house in the office/den, so I can still help out my wife during the day when she needs help with Gryphon.

What is your favorite part about being a dad?
Even though I'm home during the day, I'm still working and in a focused go mode. Since the studio is new, I'm in go mode for about 12 hours of the day from 8am to 8pm and when I see my boy and pick him up, I'm reminded how important it is to be in the moment with him and my family. I love the fact that this little child needs me. There's something about being part of a unit that makes me feel like I have purpose and at the end of the day, nothing matters except enjoying life with the ones you love. Plus, he's growing so fast, its fun to see him develop looks and a personality. Can't wait to see what he gets into next.

What are some dad tested ways to help your baby sleep?
I'm still new to it but we are all about the no cry method. Our boy isn't really a cuddle baby but when he's tired the only thing that works, as of 10 months out, is holding him and singing a little song while bouncing him side to side. Sounds pretty specific because it is. Haha. He's teething so its hard to get him comfortable.

What do you like to do when the kids are napping?
Well, I'm not gonna lie, if my wife is around, I tackle her first. Haha. We don't get much alone time. At night, when Gryphon is sleeping, we like to watch movies.

How did you hear about Little Lotus?
I was asked to help with their Kickstarter campaign. Since I do motion graphic design, I was asked to help with some of the explanation videos for the product.

Why do you support Little Lotus?
While doing the videos, I had to learn everything about the product in order to convey the message to viewers. I'm more interested in the material. Sometimes, it's hard to regulate the temperature in our house at night and since using the product, our lil Gryph has slept cozy, at the right temperature, every night.

Last but not least, anything big plans for Father's Day?
After beginning the process of starting a company while also moving into our first home and taking care of a teething 10 month old, all in the last two months, I think I'll just stop and sit down for a while. Haha.

A Tale of Little Lotus Twins

Stephanie and her family

Dear Little Lotus Community,

Helping preemies is core to the Little Lotus mission, and our 1:1 model of giving. Many twins are born as preemies, and we wanted to share with you the story of one of our Little Lotus supporters and her twins! Thank you Stephanie for sharing your story!

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your twins?
Todd and I met online on July 4, 2013, and there was an instant connection! It took us 2 weeks to finally meet in person, but by that point, we were already talking every day, and the love connection was made!  We knew from the beginning we wanted to expand our family.  Once we married in August 2014, we started the journey to expand our family right away. In April 2015, we were shocked, amazed, excited, scared and blessed to learn we were pregnant with twins!  As expecting parents of multiples, you try to prepare adequately and envision how you will make it all work with 2 infants at the same time… there is truly no way to know how you will do it all with 2 babies.. and our 7 year old son Landon as well!!  It’s a hard job but the best job of my life, and I have been blessed to share this journey with Todd and Landon.

What was it like to give birth to preemies? What were some of your biggest concerns?
It was very scary to go into labor at 34 weeks, 6 days.  When my water broke, I knew the babies would spend some time in the NICU, and a stint in the NICU was exactly what we were hoping to avoid.  I felt totally secure and comfortable that the babies and I were in wonderful hands with the medical staff at the hospital, but it is so hard to not have your babies with you from minute 1… and to see them wheeled off to the NICU with their future unknown.  Our biggest concern was their health and survival… and when they could come home!

What have been some of your biggest revelations about yourself or about life as a new mom?
As a mom of a 7 year old boy and now twin boys, my biggest revelation is that your heart makes room for all of your children and our ability to love our children is infinite! I’ve also learned that as a mom of 3 at 40 years old, I need more sleep than I did when I became a mom for the first time at 32!  I’ve learned again what I learned when I had my first son - that you will do anything for the health, safety and success of your children!

Why do you support the Little Lotus mission?
The mission is important to me as every baby deserves the same chance for survival and love, so any way I can help from my small world in Keller, Texas, I love to do so!

What do you like most about the product?
Our babies sleep the best – hands down- in the Little Lotus swaddles and have from the first day we used them!  The babies are so comforted by the swaddles and settle down nearly immediately they have them on.  The swaddles are so soft and keep the babies at just the right temperature!  They are amazing!
